When my brother told me that he was going to be the father of a girl, my eyes gleamed, and I imagined a thousand things to share with her. I loved her since before she was born, and dreamed about the moment when she will call me Aunt. There are many clothes and accessories that you can buy for girls!

Sophia came into our lives and was born with that "I don't know what" attitude. Just like me, she likes acting, modeling and posing for the cameras and will spend hours coloring and drawing. Today I decided to spend an evening with her, but a different one; we will share time together doing something that we both love. We have an appointment at Target and our plan is to find a gift for mami.
- Today we're going to buy a present for Mom; Mother's Day is coming and we must be prepared.
She looked at me with her bright eyes, and asked:
 - And no present for me?
I hugged her, kissed her and we began our adventure.

The idea was to play; she pretended to be mom for a day, walking the aisles of the store imitating the actions that my sister-in-law usually does. Sofia was born here in the United States and at home we always try to speak in Spanish (a special Spanish since my family is from El Salvador and my sisters-in-law are from Guatemala. And even though we speak the same language, there are certain words that mean something very different in each country.) Every day she teaches the love for our roots, our food and all those things that characterize us. And it is interesting to see how my niece at her young age has defined the two cultures.
- What language do you speak at home? I asked
 - "Spanish" she said smiling.
 - What? - I answered.
And she laughs again and says: Español!

There is something in Sofia that reminds me of the girl I once was. She is so confident and any time is right for her to model for us. She says that when she grows up, she will be a model and work with me. I was thrilled to see her select gifts for Mom, walking the aisles of the store with much familiarity. She said she would buy hair products, and knew where they were, this she said "smells good" and fulfills the most important function, maintain mami’s hair clean.
Suddenly she ran, struck an excited yell and said:
It was then that I understood that no matter where Sophia was born, or if her father is Salvadoran and her mother from Guatemala, that in house she speaks "Spanglish" and at school English ...
There are expressions and moments we share together that have no translation.

-"Spanish" -me dijo sonriendo.
 -¿Cómo? – le respondí.
Ella vuelve a reír y me dice: ¡Español!
